About

Bayesist is written by me, Deon Garrett. I’m a former professor of computer science where I worked on machine learning and combinatorial optimization. Within that world, my interests are pretty broad, ranging from very straightforward applications of statistical learning to the opposite extreme of heuristics that don’t have a lot of theoretical motivation behind them. I enjoy both teaching and research, and this site is partly an outlet to continue scratching those itches without having my livelihood tied to the funding treadmill professionally. I’ve also always had a professional interest in programming languages, functional programming, and a few other topics in CS that weren’t the focus of my PhD.

I also like guitars (and mediocre puns), so Bayesist – while I don’t really play bass – was close enough for me to find amusing. So I mostly write here about topics related to software development, machine learning, data science, and general aspects of technology that catch my interests.

Any opinions here are solely my own and likely wrong.
